NNAHU ACCOMPLISHMENTS & ACHIEVEMENTS 2019-2020
Northern Nevada Association of Health Underwriters Accomplishments and Achievements
2019-2020
Membership
Starting this year with 77 members - and we have held strong all year. Gina, our membership chair, added a new element to luncheons and potential new member outreach by personally connecting with each individual attendee and, in many scenarios, meeting with them personally to discuss the merits of membership
Programs/Professional Development
Our chapter hosted our annual Expo in May, 2019, offering 6 CEs to attendees. Northern Nevada held lunch programs and/or social events every month (with the exception of November), many of which offered CEs with various speakers including Insurance Commissioner, Exchange Director, and our lobbyist.
Legislative
Gene Furr, our legislative chair, has done a stellar job staying in front of our representative and providing thorough updates to the membership. Our legislative team are active members of the Department of Insurance’s committee on Healthcare and Insurance, a subcommittee on level funding as well as the subcommittee discussing the SB21 options (including working with our lobbyist, Jim Wadhams, to create the language for said bill). Nevada’s legislators only meet every 2 years, with the next session slated for 2021, therefore a local day on the hill was not feasible for 2020.
Charities
Northern Nevada members chose The Eddy House (homeless and at-risk youth services) and The Note-Ables (music therapy for mental health) for their chosen charity. At each event (luncheons and annual Expo) raffle tickets are sold to benefit these charities. Approximately $3,000 is given to various charities annually.
Communications
Northern Nevada has a nicely functional and attractive website. All information is handled through StarChapter, which our communications chair keeps current.
HUPAC
State and local chapters contributed as well as members and as chapters: 20%% of all members contributed at the $12/Month or higher amount. Northern Nevada made a contribution at the National Convention to HUPAC in the amount of $500. Nevada helped to keep the HUPAC map “green” at CapCon!
Media
The social media platforms have taken front stage as well with Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn growing by the month in followers. Our media committee has been keeping relevant with social media with frequent updates and industry-relevant communications
Events
Northern Nevada represented at Annual Convention in San Diego with 7 attendees. At Capitol Conference in February, we had a total of 10 members from the Northern Nevada area attend and meet with representatives.
Awards
Northern Nevada earned Gold Chapter Certification as well as the Blue Ribbon of Excellence Award. We also earned the Pacesetter Award, Media Award and Presidential Citation Award. Our legislative chair was honored with the Legislative Excellence Award in February at Capitol Conference.
