Communications and Media Relationship
Mika Clauson, VP of Communications/Media Relations worked hard to complete a major overhaul of the chapter’s website. She also supervised a completely new look to the website while working with the chapter’s new executive director firm, Kapsher. She has begun the process of renaming the website links to conform to the new NABIP-NN chapter name.
Membership
The board year of 2022-23 finished with 98 members. To achieve that number, 22 new members were gained to offset the 17 members who were lost as well as to add five more. Gina Aguerre, our VP of Membership, will move our chapter from “small” chapter status to “medium” chapter status in just a few more months.
Programs/Professional Development
Nine monthly membership luncheon meetings were offered this year along with two quarterly Medicare programs and the annual Medicare Summit. Governor joe Lombardo and Insurance Commissioner Scott Kipper were two of the keynote presenters that Julie Ann Evans (VP of Professional Development) and Ken LaRovere (Programs Chair) were able to book during the year.
Legislative
VP of Legislative Affairs, Jason Casey, led a team of chapter leaders to a “Day at The Capital” during the 2023 Legislative Session. Working alongside state legislative leaders, regulatory clarifications were imbedded into law (AB127) concerning how carriers had to handle the marketing of birthday Medicare changeovers.
Charities
The RAVE Family Foundation and the Sanford Center for Aging received significant contributions from the chapters monthly luncheon raffles. Over $2,000 will be given in 2023. In addition, the December monthly membership meeting was dedicated to holding a toy drive for Ashlee’s Toy Closet.
Chapter Management
This past year was the first year of the Board of Directors organizing and working under the new By-Laws passed in May of 2022. Additional changes were made to those By-Laws during the May, 2023, Annual Membership Meeting. The chapter officially changed its name to “National Association of Benefits and Insurance Professionals – Northern Nevada (NABIP-NN). Six officers from the chapter attended the NABIP “Capital Conference” and five officers attended the NABIP “Annual National Convention” in New Orleans. For the first time in the chapter’s history, a professional Executive Director firm was hired to begin work in the new board year.
NABIP-PAC
The chapter was recognized at the annual NABIP Capital Conference for supporting the NABIP-PAC with a $500 chapter contribution. In addition, the chapter earned the award of “The Highest Percentage of Contributing Members for a Small Chapter”. Don Goldmann was given personal recognition for his efforts on behalf of fund raising for NABIP-PAC.
Awards
Chapter Awards for the 2022-23 year included earning the Gold Chapter Certification, the Pacesetter award, the Website award and the Media Relation award for chapters identified as “small” chapters.
Every year the President of NNAHU awards the Stuart Michell Award to the most outstanding NNAHU member that went above and beyond in their duties. It is the President’s high honor to be able to give out this award to the most deserving member and this year’s winner was Mika Clauson.
LPRT and Triple Crown Honorees
Six members of the chapter were recognized as LPRT honorees and they were Jason Casey, Michael Dillon, Gina Espinal-Aguerre, Kenneth Furr, Joy Gardner and Ross Pendergraft. Michael Dillon, Joy Gardner and Ross Pendergraft were awarded Triple Crown pins.
