Chapter Updates
Awards Earned At 96th National Convention
The Northern Nevada chapter was honored at the 2026 NABIP National Convention by being declared a winning local chapter in two national categories for local chapters. 
NABIP-NN won first place in membership retention and for its website, for a small local chapter.
Based upon the number of members in a chapter, one champion chapter is selected by the National Awards Committee in each award category. Awards are divided by chapter size amongst those chapters that are considered tiny, small, medium or large. Northern Nevada is considered to be a small chapter.
Awards on a state level are also divided by those size categories.
The state of Nevada, in the small state organization category, was declared a Landmark Award winner and the national winner of the membership retention award for a best state chapter. The Landmark Award is the highest award available to a state organization and it measures every category of activity that an organization can be involved in from website, governance, legislative activities, public service, professional development, membership and membership communications.
In attendance at the Atlantic City convention were chapter members Aliana Rushing (President), Georgana Cepeda (Incoming President), Don Goldmann (Past National NAHU President) and Mike Dillon (Nevada State President).
The highlight of the convention, as it is every year, was the Gordon Memorial dinner where the annual winners in every category of awards are celebrated.
June Luncheon Presentation Warmly Received
The latest concepts of a new approach to group coverage were
warmly received by chapter members attending the June luncheon program. While the ideas were new to most of the members in attendance, the explanations given by Greg Allen, VP of Business Development with AG Insurance Solutions, were clear, insightful and motivating.
The topic was “Level Funding Wrapped With A GAP” policy.
Allen’s presentation demonstrated how pairing a GAP policy with a level funded plan could result in zero-dollar deductions, zero-dollar copays and no coinsurance while using a high-quality PPO network ... all at a premium saving compared to most current coverages.
Kaiser Family Foundation’s Bad News Report On ACA Premiums
The Kaiser Family Foundation (KFF) released projected premium increases for persons enrolled in the Marketplace, come 2027, who make significant use of ACA subsidies.
Calculations based on the 2027 Notice of Benefits and Payment Parameters released by CMS, point to reduced subsidiaries resulting in premium increases up to $178 per month, versus current premiums averaging $113 per month.
That 58% increase is likely to result, according to KFF, in a decline of 4.8 million persons being covered.

My Hopes and Plans For NABIP Northern Nevada This Year
As I begin my term as President of NABIP Northern Nevada, I am honored and excited for the opportunity to serve our members and help continue the great work of this chapter.
Over the next twelve months, my goal is to strengthen our chapter by focusing on three key areas: education, engagement and growth.
First, I want to ensure that our members have access to high-quality educational opportunities that help them stay informed in an ever-changing insurance landscape. Whether your focus is Medicare, individual health, group benefits, life insurance, or property and casualty, I hope to provide valuable resources and learning experiences that help you better serve your clients.
Second, I want to increase member engagement and create more opportunities for networking, collaboration and relationship-building. Some of the greatest value of NABIP comes from the connections we make with one another. I encourage members to attend meetings, participate in committees, share ideas and help shape the future of our chapter.
Third, I am committed to growing our membership and expanding awareness of NABIP throughout Northern Nevada. By welcoming new agents, strengthening relationships with carrier partners, and promoting the value of professional advocacy, we can continue building a stronger and more influential organization.
I am especially excited about our upcoming events, including our annual Healthcare & Insurance Expo, educational programs, community outreach efforts, and opportunities to connect with industry leaders. Together, we can create events that are informative, engaging and beneficial for everyone involved.
Most importantly, I want every member to feel valued, heard, and supported. This chapter belongs to all of us and our success depends on the participation, ideas, and dedication of our members.
Thank you for the trust you have placed in me. I look forward to working alongside each of you as we continue to grow, advocate, educate and serve our industry and our communities.

Ethics Program CE Approved For July Membership Luncheon
Don Goldmann, former NAHU National President, will present his CE approved ethics course titled “Workplace Ethics: The Insurance Industry and You” at the July 8th Northern Nevada chapter’s monthly membership luncheon.
The objective of his presentation is to teach the fundamental tenets of ethical thought, to explain how competing philosophical constructs, such as ethics versus religion, are the underpinning on which some modern democratic regulatory systems developed, how that development is reflected in Nevada’s system of governmental regulations for insurance matters and what ethical burdens are then placed upon a licensed insurance agent operating under those rules.

NABIP 2027 Medicare Certification Accepted By Over 80 Medicare Carriers
The National Association of Benefits and Insurance Professionals (NABIP) has launched its PY2027 Medicare, Medicare Products & Fraud, Waste and Abuse (FWA) Certification, a comprehensive online training program designed to help agents and brokers meet CMS requirements and stay up to date on Medicare regulations, compliance requirements and marketplace changes.
Developed by brokers for brokers, the self-paced certification helps agents stay current on regulatory changes, strengthen their Medicare expertise and prepare for a successful Annual Enrollment Period. The curriculum covers Medicare fundamentals, marketing and enrollment compliance, and Fraud, Waste and Abuse (FWA) prevention.
"NABIP's PY2027 Medicare, Medicare Products & FWA Certification provides agents and brokers with a trusted training program that helps them meet CMS requirements and better serve Medicare beneficiaries," said Brooke Willson, NABIP’s SVP of Strategy and Innovation. "With acceptance by more than 80 carriers, including UnitedHealthcare, Aetna, Elevance Health and Humana, and CE credits filed in all 50 states and Washington, D.C., this certification continues to set the standard for Medicare agent training and professional development.”
